Writing a Music Personal Statement

Crafting A Music Personal Statement

Writing the University of California personal statement is one of the most challenging parts of the application process.  The UC prompt 1 examples personal statement is infamous for weeding out potential college candidates, and you don’t want to end up in the rejection pile along with the rest of them.  Crafting a quality music personal statement is a good way to avoid that fate; don’t be afraid to ask for professional help.  The following is an example of a music personal statement that we helped write . . .

Example Music Personal Statement

If I had to choose one song that expresses who I am, it would be “Suit and Tie,” by Justin Timberlake.

This song really speaks to several of my defining characteristics.  For one, I understand the importance of putting your best face forward in a professional environment.  Appearance is important, yes, but being professional (wearing a “suit and tie”) is more than just that.  Being professional involves all aspects of your interactions with your work and your coworkers, down to your demeanor, your carriage, your self-discipline, and your work ethic.  This is one of my core values.

Also, when Timberlake states, “I’m going to leave it all on the floor tonight,” he’s expressing a need to be passionate about his work every day and give it all his best effort.  This is something that I really identify with; being passionate about your work is one of the most important keys to happiness and I go out of my way every day to pursue my passions.

The music video of “Suit and Tie” captures both of these qualities quite well.  In it, Timberlake portrays a nameless superstar performer who has built a life around his performance career.  He is disciplined and passionate about what he does, just as I am, and that’s why this song describes me.
